Block One

This Wednesday will be working on our first BOM. This block is based on the Paducah Peony; I simplified it using a 9 patch block topped with a simple appliqué – so we get to practice a little raw-edge appliqué and blanket stitching.

This is what you will need to complete this block:

Fabrics:  9 patch: Background fabric and medium fabric
Appliqué: Three colors: 2 medium and 1 darker fabric

Thread:  To construct block
Matching the fabrics for the appliqué

Paper-backed fusible
Fine tip “Sharpie” to trace appliqué shapes on to fusible
Scissors to cut fusible backed appliqués – sharp paper scissors!
Spray starch
Iron and ironing surface
Rotary cutter, mat and ruler
Sewing machine
¼” foot
Open toe foot (for appliquéing – makes it much easier to see what you’re doing J
Pins
Marking chalk and smaller ruler – (3”x12)
...And anything else you normally use!!!

Fabric for our BOM

Hello everyone, hope you are having a good weekend!

Here’s a list of the fabrics you will need to complete our Block of the Month quilt. The challenge: use your stash!!! The colors are based on the quilt pictured below.

This list does not include yardage for the first two borders or the sashing; we will choose those once the blocks are complete! In addition to your fabrics, you will need the following items. I will let you know from month to month which will be required to construct each block.

2 yds Light-weight paperbacked fusible web such as “Pellon’s Wonder Under” or “Lite Steam-A-Seam”

Thread to construct quilt

Rotary cutter, mat and ruler

12 1/2 “ square-up-ruler

¼ “ foot & open toe foot for your sewing machine

Fine tip “Sharpie” marker

“Micron” marking pen

Marking pencil

Template plastic

Invisible or matching thread for appliquéd blocks

Sharp-fine tip scissors to cut out appliqués

Basting glue such as “Roxane’s Glue Baste It” or Aleene’s No-Sew”

Hopefully I haven’t left to much out!!!!
